Theoretical Archaeology Group 45th Annual Meeting

Bournemouth, 13-15 December 2024

Location

TAG45 will be based at the Talbot Campus on the north side of Bournemouth, where there is a range of lecture theatres, seminar rooms, exhibition spaces, and social spaces available in close proximity to one another. The conference base will be the Fusion Building (see picture) as this provides most of the space required under one roof, and has catering outlets, display areas, and room for bookstalls; other facilities across the campus will be used as necessary. We expect to have available a ‘quite space’ and also a ‘family-friendly’ space. It is hoped to hold the Antiquity Quiz and TAG Party in the Students Union (The Old Fire Station) in the Lansdown area of Bournemouth which is convenient for accommodation in the town centre.

A number of museums and archaeological sites are accessible within the Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole local authority (BCP) area, including the Red House Museum and Gardens (Christchurch), The Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum (Bournemouth) and Hengistbury Head (Christchurch). It is anticipated that a free-to-view installation art exhibition will be available in the town centre and on the seafront in December 2024, and a ‘traditional’ Christmas market is held in the town centre in the weeks leading up to Christmas. And, of course, for those that need to temper their academic interests with adventure, there is a rather attractive beach with 7 miles of golden sand – although enjoying it in December does require a certain degree of fortitude!
